Decorating your venue
Although a wedding is really about the ceremony, for many of your guests, the real wedding begins at the reception (i.e. food + dancing + open bar = serious fun). For the bride and groom, the reception is usually when they get to relax and let loose as well, but the planning of the reception is anything but relaxing, especially if you’re trying to stick to a strict budget. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to save money on fun, elegant, and memorable decor. Here are some inexpensive wedding reception decoration ideas. Save Money on Wedding Reception Decorations Use White Christmas Lights Many people use white Christmas lights all year round on their back porches as a simple and elegant decoration. And these lights can make a beautiful addition to any wedding reception venue! They can be placed around tables, around the cake, or in potted plants. If you don’t want to use Christmas lights, consider lanterns instead. Tie Ribbons Seat covers can be expensive to rent and a lot of work to make. Instead of using seat covers, get some beautiful wide ribbon to tie on the backs of the chairs to add some elegance and spruce things up. Ribbon is a […]

It’s approaching that special day… Valentine’s Day. We thought that we would put together 50 strange and wonderful proposal ideas for those people who like to do things a little differently. Enjoy… 1. Choose a favourite place—whether it’s a fountain, hotel rooftop, monument or national park—that has personal significance to the two of you. Once you’re there, ask someone nearby to take a picture of you together, and instead of posing, drop down on one knee. 2. Have a choir, brass band or drum line show up for a surprise performance of your fiance-to-be’s favourite love song in a park or public location for your proposal. For a really personal touch, ask the performers if they can incorporate your fiance’s name into the lyrics. 3. Get in touch with the stage manager of your favourite production and propose after the cast’s curtain call. Call ahead and see if you can have a special note or ad placement added into the playbill, so you have a keepsake of the proposal. 4. Arrange a surprise proposal with a street caricaturist. Have the caricaturist sketch a picture of you two with word bubbles that say, “Will you marry me?” and “Yes!” 5. Ask […]

14 Festive Facts about Christmas
The Germans made the first artificial Christmas trees out of dyed goose feathers. Each year more than 3 billion Christmas cards are sent in the U.S. alone. All the gifts in the Twelve Days of Christmas would equal 364 gifts. According to data analysed from Facebook posts, two weeks before Christmas is one of the two most popular times for couples to break up. However, Christmas Day is the least favourite day for breakups. Most of Santa’s reindeer have male-sounding names, such as Blitzen, Comet, and Cupid. However, male reindeers shed their antlers around Christmas, so the reindeer pulling Santa’s sleigh are likely not male, but female or castrated. The world’s largest Christmas stocking measured 106 feet and 9 inches (32.56 m) long and 49 feet and 1 inch (14.97 m) wide. It weighed as much as five reindeer and held almost 1,000 presents. It was made by the Children’s Society in London on December 14, 2007. Christmas trees usually grow for about 15 years before they are sold. Mistletoe (Viscum album) is from the Anglo-Saxon word misteltan, which means “little dung twig” because the plant spreads though bird droppings. President Teddy Roosevelt, an environmentalist, banned Christmas trees from the White […]
Wine tasting & selection
1) How much wine do you need for your wedding reception? You can estimate pouring around 5 glasses of wine per bottle and 6 glasses for Champagne poured into flutes. As a rough guide, assume each guest will consume about half a bottle of wine (then add a little for a safety margin). It’s better to have too much rather than too little. 2) How to choose wines to fit with the Season and time of day Warming, fuller-bodied wines are perfect for Winter Weddings (Full-bodied Chardonnays, oak matured Shiraz or Cabernet Sauvignon). Summer Weddings call for lighter, more refreshing wine styles (Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Chablis or Rosé and Pinot Noir or a Spanish Garnacha). If your Wedding ‘Breakfast’ is at lunchtime, then people often prefer wines that are lighter in style – anything too alcoholic and you’ll find half of the room nodding off in the afternoon. 3) How to choose a wine for the toast It’s customary to serve sparkling wine for the toast. Many couples choose Champagne, but there are loads of other superb sparkling wines that you may prefer. For a lighter alternative, try Prosecco from Italy. 4) How to pair your wines with food […]
