We get to know our suppliers and believe that this ensures that consistency and quality is always delivered for every event. Working with DJ’s that we know get the crowd up and dancing, getting fresh produce from local suppliers and the decorating of the venue from local florists ensures that we will get the very best service… Our suppliers never let us down! We want to ensure that you have enough time to enjoy your day and do not feel pressured or rushed at any stage throughout the day. Speak to your wedding coordinator and they will be able to guide you through the whole process. The most important thing to remember is that THIS IS YOUR DAY! 14:15 – Arrival of guests 14:45 – Guests seated ready 15:00 – Ceremony 15:30 – Reception Drinks & Canapes 16:00 – Photo Opportunities 17:00 – Wedding Breakfast & Speeches 19:00 – Evening Guest Arrival 20:00 – First Dance & Cake Cutting 00:00 – Carriages Await 14:15 – Arrival of guests You don’t want your guests to arrive too early but you want to allow enough time in case there is any unexpected traffic. You may wish to request your guests to arrive even earlier if you plan to arrive by wedding car so that your guests don’t see the bride before the ceremony. The venue will always assist guests who are late and attempt […]
A-Z of Entertainment
From magicians to sport tournaments. Get your wedding entertainment covered with these unique ideas… A is for… Abracadabra! Consider hiring a magician for your wedding reception. If you’re thinking it’ll be too much like a child’s birthday party with rabbits and top hats, then think again! Many magicians perform mind illusions and close-up personal magic tricks, which can be specifically tailored to complement your event, and are certain to captivate all your guests. B is for… Burlesque Burlesque performances don’t have to be a strip show! They can be sophisticated and entertaining – especially if you’ve chosen a chic retro wedding theme. Hiring any sort of dancers is a cool wedding idea. C is for… Casino Place bets and try your luck at your very own Vegas-style casino. This works as a great icebreaker because guests will be able to mingle and interact with each other as they play. While the money may not be real, the entertainment is priceless and your guests are guaranteed to have a fun evening! D is for… Dressing-up box Nothing’s easier than having a dressing-up box as the entertainment at a wedding. It’s not just kids who love dressing up, and after a few […]
Real Weddings: The Most Amazing Day
Serena & Adam Jordan 12 . 08 . 16 When you own a wedding venue, and the day finally comes to actually get married yourselves, you begin to feel the pressure build! Jordan and I had been together for 9 years when he popped the question… It was in a moment of complete surprise, when I was feeling anything but glamorous! (It’s a long story, but if you do want to hear more about my ‘pain’, quite literally! You can read the full story here: http://www.mrandmrsjordan.com/the-proposal/ ) Whilst we had been together for a long time, we had a business to run together and always had bigger, more important things to focus on within the business – The concept of even planning a wedding for ‘myself’, just felt like something I would never have the time to do!! However, as every ‘bride to be’ does, I found my time and started to begin the planning process!… The first thing we needed to confirm was the venue!!… Holding our wedding at the Sheene Mill was a ‘no brainer’! Whilst I admit, I was a little worried about the potential added pressure and the concept of being ‘at work’ at first, I […]
“2 Rosettes for Culinary Excellence”
The long-established Rosette scheme recognises successful cooking at different levels across the UK. Success or failure in achieving Rosettes is based on one or more visits by an AA inspector to a hotel or restaurant. Essentially the visit is a snapshot, whereby the entire meal, including ancillary items (when served), is assessed. Less than 10% of restaurants nationwide are of a standard that is worthy of One Rosette and above. This is indeed a huge achievement, and not to be underestimated. AA Rosettes are solely awarded by AA Hotel and Restaurant Inspectors. External influences from hotels, restaurants or other guides are not taken into account when awarding Rosettes. Create a Signature Cocktail for Your Wedding Your reception menu is set and the cake design is picked. It’s time to focus on drinks. Add a personal touch to your bar menu by choosing a signature cocktail. Pick a drink that stars your favorite liquor, matches your color scheme, or just sounds delicious. A bonus for the budget-conscious: You can save on the drink tab by offering wine, beer, champagne, and just the signature cocktail, rather than a full bar. Most good venues will allow you to create a signature cocktail with enough notice. At The Sheene Mill will take great pleasure in doing a little something different to make your day perfect. Here are a few ideas to get you thinking… Cranberry Kiss Follow your first kiss as husband and wife with a delicious Cranberry Kiss. Spiced and sweet-tart, this Captain Morgan rum and cranberry cocktail gets a lift from a dash of collins mix. Sparkling Sangria Tradicional Sangria, a punchlike concoction made with sweetened red wine and fresh fruit, is perfect for summer weddings. Have the bar prepare this celebratory variation, which includes champagne. Smirnoff No. 21 Pomegranate Martini This signature cocktail is the perfect marriage […]

Quick Fire Wedding Planning Tips
Wouldn’t it be nice to have someone on call 24/7 in the run up to your Wedding to let you know what you should be doing and when, to have them haggle the best price for your Wedding flowers, to tell you where to get the most amazing cake from and to near enough do everything and anything that is remotely linked to Weddings? Well unfortunately for some or should I say the majority of us, we don’t have this luxury so we have to rely on good ol’ common sense, the world wide web and our trusted friends and family. To help you along the way, here’s a few thoughts to get you going and to give you even more to think about. 1. Set your budget – know your limits, don’t splurge for the sake of it We all know Weddings aren’t the cheapest things in the world and as much as you try to be strict with yourselves when you decide to pay an extra £100.00 for the photographer to stay for your first dance and an extra 50p for cute little favours and extra money behind the bar for everyone to get even more drunk on […]

Bands Vs DJ’s
No doubt about it: Music can make or break a wedding celebration. It’s the heart and soul of a reception and can send your guests home with happy feet — or pained grimaces! The fact that you want to hire a talented band or fleet-fingered DJ is a given. Finding one is a matter of polling friends, surfing online, shopping around with fine-tuned ears, and making a move quickly — top talent can get booked up to a year in advance. What type of entertainment suits your personal taste, budget, space allowances, guest demographics, and killer dance moves best? Keep an open mind, and consider these issues to start your search. Vibe The type of music you choose can set the tone of your wedding and solidify a theme. And remember, it’s the thing people most often remember. Think about what musical genre best reflects your personalities and inspires the ambience you want to create: Groovy funk or subdued string quartet? Swanky swing or kick-off-your-shoes-and-sweat zydeco? The way the music is delivered — by live band or DJ — also affects the ambience. The type of music you choose may dictate the choice too — big band sounds are generally […]

Rain… We’ve got it covered!
Well the Summer in 2016 doesn’t appear to have fully arrived yet. So the big question all Brides out there will be thinking is… what happens if it rains on my big day? The first thing to remember is that a drop of rain shouldn’t spoil any of your day. At Sheene Mill we do have a marquee to cover all your guests and you are covered in the pavilion of course. Also it is very unusual for a rain shower to last more than a few minutes at a time which means that it is possible to dodge the clouds with your timings. To hire our marquee we always require 72 hours notice and charges apply. We believe that the marquee is a beautiful addition to a wedding and fits in well with the beauty of the venue. There are also other options you can consider for a wet wedding such as supplying your guests with wellies, white umbrellas and a mac – what a great photo opportunity! Ultimately the registrar has the final say as to whether the ceremony can be conducted outdoors or not. Fortunately at Sheene Mill we have the ability to move your ceremony indoors with […]
