The WOW moment
When we first received this photograph from Phil Lynch we nearly broke the internet. The response and praise was incredible. But as Phil will tell you, this isn’t a simple point and click photo opportunity. It’s always good to have an idea of the style of photography for your big day and some examples to hand to your photographer always helps. This gives your photographer the best opportunity to get the shot and equipment needed setup ready. For this particular shot Phil had multiple flashes positioned behind the bride and groom to ensure they were lit up with minimal shadows. To get a general all round focus across the trees multiple shots were stitched together electronically to ensure everything looked crisp. When the raw image is ready there is then always some touching up to do on PhotoShop. Highlighting the night sky, twinkling lights in the trees and ensuring the vibrant colours of the garden lighting were all key parts of making this photograph what it is. Decorating your venue
Although a wedding is really about the ceremony, for many of your guests, the real wedding begins at the reception (i.e. food + dancing + open bar = serious fun). For the bride and groom, the reception is usually when they get to relax and let loose as well, but the planning of the reception is anything but relaxing, especially if you’re trying to stick to a strict budget. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to save money on fun, elegant, and memorable decor. Here are some inexpensive wedding reception decoration ideas. Save Money on Wedding Reception Decorations Use White Christmas Lights Many people use white Christmas lights all year round on their back porches as a simple and elegant decoration. And these lights can make a beautiful addition to any wedding reception venue! They can be placed around tables, around the cake, or in potted plants. If you don’t want to use Christmas lights, consider lanterns instead. Tie Ribbons Seat covers can be expensive to rent and a lot of work to make. Instead of using seat covers, get some beautiful wide ribbon to tie on the backs of the chairs to add some elegance and spruce things up. Ribbon is a […]
Real Weddings: The Most Amazing Day
Serena & Adam Jordan 12 . 08 . 16 When you own a wedding venue, and the day finally comes to actually get married yourselves, you begin to feel the pressure build! Jordan and I had been together for 9 years when he popped the question… It was in a moment of complete surprise, when I was feeling anything but glamorous! (It’s a long story, but if you do want to hear more about my ‘pain’, quite literally! You can read the full story here: http://www.mrandmrsjordan.com/the-proposal/ ) Whilst we had been together for a long time, we had a business to run together and always had bigger, more important things to focus on within the business – The concept of even planning a wedding for ‘myself’, just felt like something I would never have the time to do!! However, as every ‘bride to be’ does, I found my time and started to begin the planning process!… The first thing we needed to confirm was the venue!!… Holding our wedding at the Sheene Mill was a ‘no brainer’! Whilst I admit, I was a little worried about the potential added pressure and the concept of being ‘at work’ at first, I […]

Below is a general update from Cambridgeshire Registration Service. Customer Contact As always at this time of year we are experiencing a very busy time post-Christmas with ceremony booking enquiries, both for this year and several years ahead, and it seems timely to issue a few reminders to help us to help the customers we share: We recommend that when talking to customers, you advise them that the sooner they book with us (which they can do as soon as they have decided on a potential date with yourselves provided they are legally free to marry / form a civil partnership) the more likely it is that the time they want will be available. We already have bookings going in for 2019 /2020! As we take bookings so far in advance people booking at relatively short notice (for example for peak season Saturdays this year) are understandably sometimes disappointed with the times still available, but we have to deal with customers on a first come first served basis. When discussing with your customers please encourage them to be flexible around the times that work for you too. On the booking form (available on http://www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/info/20103/ceremonies/17/marriage_and_civil_partnership_ceremonies), it gives the opportunity to give […]

What it takes to work in Hospitality
When recruiting at Sheene Mill we always tell our candidates exactly what it is like to work in the hospitality industry – It’s hard work! But have a read of 10 reason why we believe that working in hospitality can be fantastic… According to the 2009 Trends & Statistics survey by the British Hospitality Association (BHA), around 1.9 million people now work in the industry. The chances are, if you’re reading this, you’re one of them. You probably also know exactly why your industry is so popular, and why so many people want to work in it. Yes, the shifts can be long and tiring, but you’ll rarely find someone with a hospitality job who doesn’t have a passion for it. Here are just ten of the reasons why a career in hospitality is well… great! 1. You make people’s day Whether you’re a concierge in a hotel, or a kitchen porter working behind the scenes, or even if you’re involved in the management of a hospitality business, every time you come into work you’re making someone’s day that little bit better. Your business is all about people. It’s not about widgets or spreadsheets; it’s about making people happy. 2. It’s creative As well as being a people-oriented industry, hospitality is creative. […]
Naomi & Simon’s Blue Theme
PHOTOGRAPHY Courtesy of White Gold Photography My brief for yesterday was pretty much one word FUN! Naomi and Simon planned a fantastic outdoor wedding at Sheene Mill in Royston, right on the Hertfordshire/Cambridgeshire border and they wanted a really relaxed day. The weather looked a bit iffy to begin with, but cleared enough for the ok on the ceremony being in the garden. Naomi had based their theme around teal blue, from the pale teal of the cake to the gorgeous dark teal and iridescences of the peacock feathers that run through all the finishing touches, including the button holes, cake topper and bridesmade Amy or feather duster as it quickly became known. This was brilliantly complimented with nods’ to Simon’s love of golf, and golf balls and marker flags were also in evidence. Every one had an amazing day at this beautiful old mill, from the ceremony to the first dance it was all about the love and laughter of family and friends helping this lovely couple celebrate their very special day.
“2 Rosettes for Culinary Excellence”
The long-established Rosette scheme recognises successful cooking at different levels across the UK. Success or failure in achieving Rosettes is based on one or more visits by an AA inspector to a hotel or restaurant. Essentially the visit is a snapshot, whereby the entire meal, including ancillary items (when served), is assessed. Less than 10% of restaurants nationwide are of a standard that is worthy of One Rosette and above. This is indeed a huge achievement, and not to be underestimated. AA Rosettes are solely awarded by AA Hotel and Restaurant Inspectors. External influences from hotels, restaurants or other guides are not taken into account when awarding Rosettes.
